Day 4 – Set Your Affection
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” – Colossians 3:2

Where you set your affection determines the direction of your life. The word “set” implies intentionality—like setting the thermostat in your home or setting the destination on google maps. The Apostle Paul, under divine inspiration, exhorts believers to deliberately fix their heart, mind, and desires on things above—not on the passing pleasures and distractions of this world.

Every morning brings a choice: will you fix your thoughts on heaven or be pulled into the noise of earth? It’s easy to let our minds drift to to-do lists, social media, politics, or personal problems. But if Christ is our life (Colossians 3:4), then our hearts ought to be set where He is—at the right hand of the Father. A Christ-centered perspective begins by looking up, not down or around.

This world is temporary. The news will change. The stock market will fluctuate. People will disappoint. But the things of God are eternal. His Word is settled. His promises are sure. His kingdom is unshakable. When your affections are set above, you’ll find your priorities change, your perturbation (anxieties) lessen, and your purpose becomes clearer.

So each morning, lift your eyes. Before you scroll, check your heart. Ask the Lord to help you set your affection where it belongs—on Him. Earthly things will clamor for your attention, but heavenly things will change your direction.
